You know the food is good when it gets quiet around the table. And here, our conversation came to a screeching halt before our orders got to the table.
That's right. We were taken by the bread basket.
I wish I had pictures to show you the beautiful medley of the biscuits, cornbread, and scones. But alas, they disappeared into our mouths by an invisible pulley system before my brain could even shriek, The pictures, you idiot! You run a food blog! Our waitress seemed to understand the stunned silence as she returned to our table to quietly place a plate of jams and sweetened butters, completing the arresting tableau.
Nor can I share a picture of our generous glasses of mango mimosa. It had too perfect a blend of sweetness and sparkle to wait for a camera. Will you forgive me if I shared my order instead? (Metaphorically, of course, since it's already been eaten. But I'd have a damned hard time sharing a bite even if I could regurge these delectables.)
If avocado toast is on a menu, I have a hard time not ordering it. I know what they say about it being a millennial food and that expensive brunch items like these stand between me and my first home. But just look at this little minx, sitting on her blue throne. With a thick slice of sourdough bread, lemon-kissed avocado slices, and a generous dollop of housemade burrata, I'd be more than happy to live in a cardboard box if I could have this every day. I jumped into this so happily, teeth first, that I didn't even notice the slightly incongruous chopped mint until I was midway through.
I wish I'd thought to put my hand by this plate when I took this picture so you could appreciate its size by scale. This behemoth of a plate, tipping precariously toward the end of our table, was a side order of home fries. My brunch date and I took brave and regular stabs with our forks, but it still engulfed my takeaway box.
Generous is the word here. Not only with our portions, but also with our time. Our server never rushed us out, and even when a third friend stopped by (without ordering anything), our waitress cheerfully added another chair to our table and offered her a glass of water. We left nearly an hour and a half later - happy, sated, and slightly boozy. The only downside I can think of is that parking can be a bit of a pain. Street parking is limited in this area, but there is valet parking available at the bank across the street.
